Connecting Kit to HeyNews

HeyNews connects to Kit (formerly ConvertKit) so it can learn from your past broadcasts and see which topics readers respond to.

What HeyNews does with your Kit data

When you connect Kit, HeyNews will:

  • Import your broadcast history and save the URLs you've shared with your readers so HeyNews can use them in future drafts.
  • Find more article links inside each broadcast (up to 10 per issue) and save them as stories HeyNews can use later.
  • Track broadcast performance (open rates, click rates, unsubscribes) so HeyNews knows which topics your readers care about.
  • Notice which links get clicks so similar stories can rank higher in future suggestions.

HeyNews only reads your broadcast data. It will never send emails, modify your subscribers, or change anything in your Kit account.

How to connect

From the Kit App Store

If you find HeyNews in the Kit App Store, click Install. Kit will ask you to approve access, then send you back to confirm the install.

If you're not signed in to HeyNews yet, you'll land on the sign-up page first. After signing in or creating an account, HeyNews picks up where you left off and continues the Kit setup.

From HeyNews

  1. Log in to your HeyNews account at app.heynews.co.
  2. Go to the Connections page in the sidebar.
  3. In the Kit Connections section, click Connect now.
  4. Click Connect with Kit in the connection form.
  5. Kit will ask you to approve what HeyNews can read. Review it and click Allow.
  6. Kit will send you back to HeyNews. You'll see a success message confirming the connection.

Your Kit account will now appear on the Connections page with your account name and subscriber count.

What happens after connecting

After you connect Kit, HeyNews checks for updates in the background:

  • Every 4 hours, HeyNews checks recent broadcasts and saves article links as stories.
  • Every hour, HeyNews checks performance for broadcasts that are at least 48 hours old. We wait 48 hours so readers have time to open and click before the numbers are useful.

You don't need to do anything manually. HeyNews keeps checking in the background.

Disconnecting Kit

If you want to remove the Kit connection:

  1. Go to the Connections page in the sidebar.
  2. Find your Kit account card.
  3. Click Remove.
  4. Confirm the removal.

Stories HeyNews already found stay in your account, but HeyNews stops checking Kit for new broadcasts.

Reconnecting or switching accounts

To connect a different Kit account, disconnect the current one first, then click Connect now again. You'll go through the same approval flow and can choose a different Kit account.

Troubleshooting

"Kit connection failed" after approval

This usually means the approval link timed out. Go back to the Connections page and try connecting again. The link is valid for 10 minutes.

No new sources appearing after connecting

HeyNews checks Kit every 4 hours. Your sources should appear after the next check. Check back in a few hours.

Subscriber count shows 0

This can happen if your Kit account is new or if Kit took a moment to respond during setup. The count should update after the next check.

Data and privacy

  • Your Kit connection tokens are encrypted before being stored. Even the HeyNews team cannot read them.
  • Kit lets you approve the connection without sharing your Kit password with us.
  • You can revoke access anytime by disconnecting in HeyNews or removing the app from your Kit account settings.
