Managing saved issues

Every issue you save from Compose appears under Issues. It stays there even if you later publish it from your newsletter platform.

Viewing your drafts

Go to Issues in the sidebar. You'll see your saved work with:

  • Subject line and preview text so you can recognize the draft quickly
  • AI Writer used for the draft
  • Stories used count
  • Last saved time
  • Badges, such as New, Edited, Automated, or Sandbox
  • Performance metrics like open rate, click rate, and recipient count (if connected to beehiiv or Kit)

Click Open draft to reopen it in Compose.

New auto-saved issues show a New badge. After you save edits in Compose, the issue shows an Edited badge instead. Issues created by Automations also show an Automated badge, and automation notifications open the matching issue directly.

Managed Company Newsletter drafts also show their review status and email delivery state, so you can tell whether a draft is waiting for review, ready for a test, test sent, needs attention, or still not sent.

Overview stats

At the top of Issues, you'll see aggregate metrics:

  • Total newsletters you've created
  • Sent count for newsletters marked as sent
  • Average open rate across all sent newsletters
  • Average click rate across all sent newsletters
  • Total subscribers reached as a combined recipient count

These numbers come from your connected newsletter platform (beehiiv or Kit). If you haven't connected one, you'll only see draft counts.

Creating a new newsletter

Click the Compose button at the top right to jump to the Compose page.

Draft review

Open an issue in Compose to review the subject line, preview text, and full copy. You can edit it, use Refine with AI, copy it into your email platform, or save your changes.

For managed Company Newsletters, HeyNews reviews each draft before it can be pushed to the managed email provider. If a draft is still waiting for review, it cannot be pushed or test-sent yet.

Performance data

If you've connected beehiiv or Kit, HeyNews pulls performance data for your broadcasts. Newsletters that have been sent through your connected platform will show:

  • Recipients, the number of people who received it
  • Open rate, the percentage who opened the email
  • Click rate, the percentage who clicked a link

This data updates automatically every few hours. Brand-new broadcasts won't show metrics right away. HeyNews waits 48 hours before pulling performance data so readers have time to actually open the email.
