Subscription and billing

Manage your plan and billing from Settings > Subscription.

Plans

HeyNews has four paid plans. Pick the one that matches how much you publish.

Hobbyist, $39/month

  • 5 issues per month
  • 5 AI chat revisions per draft
  • 1 publication
  • 1 paid newsletter connection for beehiiv or Kit. Public archive history can be added to a publication without using another paid connection.
  • Chrome extension, AI Writers, and content sources

Yearly: $327.60/year (30% off, about $27.30/month).

Starter, $99/month

Everything in Hobbyist, plus:

  • 15 issues per month
  • 10 AI chat revisions per draft
  • 2 publications
  • More room for weekly and twice-weekly publishing

Yearly: $831.60/year (30% off, about $69.30/month).

Pro, $299/month

Everything in Starter, plus:

  • 45 issues per month
  • 20 AI chat revisions per draft
  • 4 publications
  • Priority support

Yearly: $2,511.60/year (30% off, about $209.30/month).

Team, $499/month

Everything in Pro, plus:

  • 90 issues per month
  • Unlimited AI chat revisions
  • 10 publications
  • Built for teams running multiple brands

Yearly: $4,191.60/year (30% off, about $349.30/month).

Free trial

Every new account starts with a 14-day free trial after you add a payment method, regardless of the plan you pick:

  • 5 draft issues total during the trial
  • 5 AI chat revisions per draft during the trial
  • Unlimited AI Writers
  • 1 publication
  • A payment method is required to activate the trial before entering the dashboard. You won't be charged until the trial ends.

The trial limits apply to every plan. Your plan's full allowance (5, 15, 45, or 90 issues per month) starts the moment the trial ends.

During the trial, the Subscription tab shows "Free Trial" on your plan card and lists the price as "$0 today ยท $X/month after trial." You'll also see the trial limits: 5 draft issues total, 1 publication, and 5 revisions per draft. Under that, HeyNews shows the full plan allowance that starts after billing begins.

HeyNews sends reminder emails before your trial ends. When the trial period ends, your subscription begins automatically. Cancel before the trial is up and you won't be billed.

Add-ons

Add-ons work with any active paid plan and add to your plan's normal limits.

Add-ons are not available during the free trial. You'll see the Add-ons section with a note that says "Available after trial ends," but the Add buttons stay off until your subscription starts billing. That way, you won't get surprise add-on charges when the trial ends.

Unlimited AI revisions

Removes the per-draft revision limit on Hobbyist, Starter, and Pro. Team already includes unlimited revisions.

  • Monthly: $50/month
  • Yearly: $420/year

Issue packs

Add extra issues per month when you need more capacity without upgrading tiers.

  • +10 issues/mo for $99/month
  • +20 issues/mo for $149/month (about $7.45 per issue)
  • +30 issues/mo for $199/month (about $6.63 per issue, the best per-issue rate)

Publication packs

Add extra connected publications to any plan.

  • +1 publication for $99/month
  • +2 publications for $149/month
  • +5 publications for $229/month

If your add-on spend nears the cost of the next tier, HeyNews shows an upgrade prompt on the Subscription tab. Upgrading usually gives you more capacity for about the same cost.

Managing your subscription

From the Subscription tab you can:

  • Subscribe: start any plan via Stripe Checkout
  • Change plans: switch to another plan on your current billing cycle, with prorated credit or charge applied by Stripe
  • Switch billing cycle: toggle between monthly and yearly with prorated credit
  • Add or remove add-ons: changes take effect right away
  • Pause for one month: take a short break with billing paused (see below)
  • Cancel subscription: share a short reason, review any save options, then schedule cancellation for the end of the current billing period
  • Open Billing Portal: after reviewing your plan and add-on options, open Stripe's portal to update payment methods, view invoices, or manage billing details
  • View usage: see how many issues you've used this month, how many publications you've connected, and your active add-on spend

If you switch to a plan with fewer publication slots than you currently use, HeyNews asks you to disconnect publications or add enough publication capacity first.

Pause your subscription

Need a short break? On an active paid plan, the Subscription tab has a Pause for one month button.

  • Pause lasts exactly one month. HeyNews stops billing the moment you pause.
  • Your existing newsletters and settings stay readable. Generating new drafts, syncing sources, running automations, importing, adding integrations, and publishing pause until you resume.
  • Resume any time with one click from Settings > Subscription. If you forget, your subscription automatically resumes one month after you paused it.
  • Pause is available once every three months. If you paused recently, the Subscription tab shows the next available date.
  • Pausing also clears any pending cancellation or scheduled downgrade, so your account is not trying to make another subscription change while paused.

Pause is not available during the free trial, while a payment is past due, or for admin-granted accounts.

If a payment fails

If Stripe cannot collect payment, your account is paused until the invoice is paid. You'll see an Update Payment Method button in HeyNews, and Stripe may also email you a secure payment link.

  • Newsletter generation is disabled while payment is past due
  • Adding sources may be limited until payment is fixed
  • Settings stays accessible so you can update your card or open the billing portal

Your data stays in place. Once the payment succeeds, your subscription becomes active again and you can keep working.

When your trial expires

If you don't subscribe before the 14-day trial ends, your account is paused and you'll see a full-screen message when you log in with a Subscribe Now button.

  • HeyNews stops checking sources, so no new stories are collected
  • Newsletter generation is disabled
  • Settings stays accessible so you can manage your account

Your data stays exactly as you left it. Subscribe and pick up right where you left off.

Legacy quantity-based Pro subscriptions

Before the current flat-rate plans, Pro used a single graduated-tier price with one billing slot per connected publication. Customers on those legacy subscriptions keep their current pricing, capacity, and publication count. The Current Plan card notes "Legacy quantity-based pricing" so you know which pricing model you're on.

Canceling

Click Cancel subscription from the Subscription tab to start the cancellation flow.

  1. Share a few words about why you're canceling. We use it to keep improving HeyNews.
  2. We'll look for a better fit before you commit. If a cheaper plan fits your current usage, you'll see it as a one-click downgrade. If your usage is over the next plan down, we'll show the closest cheaper plan along with the exact changes you'd need to make before the downgrade applies.
  3. If a downgrade isn't a fit and pause is available, we'll offer to pause your subscription for one month instead.
  4. If neither suits you, confirm the cancellation. Your access continues until the end of the current billing period; you can reverse the scheduled cancellation with one click any time before then.

If support schedules cancellation for you or you cancel from the Stripe portal, HeyNews still shows the same Keep my subscription option after the billing status syncs. After the billing period ends, HeyNews stops checking sources and newsletter generation is disabled.

Trial cancellations are immediate. After canceling a trial, restarting is paid-only, so a new free trial isn't available. Use Open Billing Portal to view invoices, update your payment method, or open the Stripe customer portal at any time.
